Privacy policy

Last updated

Your storage analysis belongs on your Mac. This page explains the limited information involved in using Aster, visiting our website, downloading the app, or asking for help.

Who this policy covers

Aster is an independently developed macOS app from BuildMeAI. “We” means the developer operating Aster and BuildMeAI. This policy covers the BuildMeAI website visitor counter and the Aster website, application, downloads, and support. You can reach us at .

What stays on your Mac

Aster reads file and folder information to show storage maps, sizes, file names, paths, application inventory, and possible cleanup items. This processing happens locally. Aster does not upload your files, scan results, or cleanup contents to BuildMeAI.

Scanning does not move files. Cleanup requires your review and confirmation. Local settings, such as appearance, remain on your Mac. This free release does not perform license checks or send activation requests. No Aster account is required.

Website visits

The Aster pages use system fonts and do not include third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or tracking cookies. The download counter stores an aggregate total of Download now button clicks, without visitor identifiers or IP addresses. Repeat clicks count again; this is not a count of unique people or completed installations.

The BuildMeAI homepage, blog and Aster pages also share a first-party visitor counter. When a page is visible and JavaScript is enabled, our server uses your connection’s IP address to create a pseudonymous identifier with a secret-key hash (HMAC-SHA-256). The visitor database stores that identifier, not the raw IP address. We keep these protected identifiers while the counter is in use so repeat visits from the same IP count once. The counter does not store browsing histories, per-visit timestamps, or cookies.

The footer shows an estimate of unique visitors since counting began on 21 October 2026, not the number of people currently online. People sharing a network may count as one visitor; changing networks, VPNs or IP addresses can count again. Visitors with JavaScript disabled are not counted. Only the aggregate total and the counting start date are available through the public counter API.

Loading the website or downloading the app sends normal connection information, such as your IP address and browser request, to the hosting service. The hosting service may keep operational and security logs.
