Terms of use

Last updated

Aster helps you understand your Mac’s storage and review what can go. These terms explain use of the app and the choices that remain yours.

Aster and BuildMeAI

Aster is an independently developed macOS storage app from BuildMeAI. “We” means the developer operating Aster and BuildMeAI. Contact for product or support questions.

Use Aster only on a Mac and on files you own or are authorized to manage. Check the published system requirements before downloading. The universal app supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later.

Using this free release

Aster 0.4.1 includes storage analysis, maps, large-file search, full paths, Finder actions, and reviewed cleanup, including supported app removal. All implemented features are available free of charge, without an account, activation key, or user limit.

You may use this release for personal or business purposes on Macs you own or are authorized to manage. Your files remain yours. The app remains the intellectual property of its owner; free access does not transfer ownership of the app or its source code.

This release does not promise indefinite support or compatibility with future macOS releases. Any future version with different terms will identify those changes before you choose to use it.

Review before you move anything

  • Keep current backups of important files. Aster is a storage tool, not a backup or recovery service.
  • Review the exact paths, selected items, sizes, and warnings before confirming cleanup. Only approve items you intend to move.
  • Possible leftovers and detected caches are suggestions for review, not proof that the files are unnecessary. App data may contain preferences, sessions, or documents.
  • Quit affected apps and development tasks before cleanup. Some products require their vendor’s own uninstall or maintenance tools.
  • Grant only the macOS permissions you choose to provide. Aster does not override permissions or require administrator privileges to bypass them.

Aster moves confirmed items to macOS Trash; it does not permanently delete them or empty Trash. Moving files to Trash does not immediately recover disk space. Finder may offer restoration, but restoration is not a substitute for a backup.

Results and practical limits

Scan sizes are measurements and estimates, not a guarantee of recoverable space or a faster Mac. Permissions, partial scans, changing files, APFS snapshots, shared blocks, and other filesystem behavior can affect results. Review scan warnings and choose a smaller folder when needed.

Aster uses protective checks, but no cleanup tool can decide what matters to you or guarantee that every unwanted item will be found. If something appears incorrect, stop and contact support before proceeding. We remain responsible for obligations that applicable law places on us.

Your information and rights

Our privacy policy describes local scans, website visits, downloads, and support information. Your files remain yours.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer rights. These terms do not impose a blanket waiver of claims or require you to give up mandatory protections.

We may update these terms for future versions or services and will identify material changes. Changes do not retrospectively remove rights granted for this release.
