Start with one folder
- Open Findermax and choose a folder through the macOS picker. A small folder with a few documents is a useful first step.
- Let files appear, then search for a filename or a word in a supported document.
- Open Privacy & access to inspect or remove connected folders.
Common questions
Why can’t Findermax see every file on my Mac?
Findermax works inside folders you explicitly approve. macOS may restrict protected locations, and some items are excluded or unavailable locally. Connect the folder containing the file and check scan notices. Full Disk Access is not required to begin. Do not disable macOS security to make a scan work.
A folder became unavailable. What should I do?
Reconnect an external drive if needed. In Privacy & access, remove the unavailable folder and choose it again through the picker. The app needs a valid permission grant after a folder moves or access changes.
Why is document text missing from search?
Search includes filenames and supported extracted text. Supported content includes UTF-8 text, PDF text layers and OCR from supported images. Encrypted PDFs, scanned PDFs, unsupported formats, cloud-only items, image quality and extraction limits affect results. Check extraction status and let the scan finish. Make a cloud file locally available using its provider before indexing it.
Does cleanup permanently delete files?
No. Eligible selected files are reviewed before a confirmed move to Trash. Findermax does not empty Trash, so space is not necessarily freed immediately. Use Finder’s Trash to restore items that are still there. Review similar photos yourself; they may contain different details.
What should I do if a move or recovery is interrupted?
Check the app’s action record and the original location in Finder. An incomplete verification may disable automatic Undo. Check Trash before repeating an action, and use Finder to recover the item if needed. Keep backups; an interrupted file move and its local record cannot always be rolled back automatically.
Does adding a file to Vault remove its original?
No. Vault creates an encrypted copy. The original, earlier index text and other backups remain outside Vault. Exported copies are unencrypted. Import regular files; archive a folder first if you want to keep it as a single Vault item.
I forgot my Vault password. Can support reset it?
No. Findermax does not save the password and the developer cannot recover it. Before removing app data or moving Macs, export files you need or back up the entire locked Vault directory and keep the password separately. Do not delete your only Vault copy.
Why won’t Vault overwrite an exported file?
Export protects existing files by refusing to overwrite a matching destination. Choose another folder or a new name, and check the exported copy before removing anything else.
What does resetting the index do?
It clears indexed metadata and extracted text without removing original files. Folder permissions, preferences, projects, action receipts and Vault data remain. Remove a folder grant to stop its future indexing.
Does my existing Zuno license work with Findermax?
Findermax is a separate Mac App Store product with its own purchase and local data. It does not use a Zuno license key or automatically migrate Zuno’s index, projects or Vault. Existing Zuno support remains at Zuno contact.
Purchases and billing
Findermax is not publicly available yet. The planned release is a paid Mac App Store download with no Findermax account, external license activation, subscription or in-app purchase.
Once released, Apple handles purchases, downloads and updates. For an eligible App Store refund request, follow Apple’s refund instructions. Eligibility depends on Apple’s terms and your region. See purchase and app information.
